Sponsorship Information :
Skimming across the water at more than 200 miles per hour, with the equivalent of a handkerchief of the bottom of the boat touching the water, unlimited hydroplane racing is the world’s most exciting motorsport.
Just imagine, a boat that is 30 feet long, 15 feet wide and weighs more than three tons going 200 miles per hour, throwing huge roostertail-shaped walls of water off the propeller alongside four others just like it on an oval course, and you’ve got some serious excitement.
On the beach, tens of thousands of fans watch in awe, admiring each and every boat, building brand loyalty to sponsors of their favorites and cheering them on all the way. In the pits, expert race crews maintain the boats and racing equipment, preparing everything for consistent and fast runs. Finishing heats and making the sponsors look good are a priority for these race teams.
Superior Racing Team is committed to just that. One of the oldest current teams in the sport, Superior Racing has been around since 1992, when Dr. Ken Muscatel “The World’s Fastest Forensic Psychologist” started the team on a dream. Ever since, he’s become known as the sport’s main ambassador.
Among the many great sponsors the team has had throughout the years are: Silver Dollar Casinos, KISW FM (99.9 “Seattle’s Best Rock”), Toyota Industrial Equipment, Bell Fork Lift, Mister Home Loan, Tire Factory, Free-Internet.com, and Jackpot Food Marts.
With Superior Racing, you’ll have a billboard for your company that is one of the most forward-thinking and unique-looking race crafts in the world. Its construction materials are space-age; Its design is what the future of the sport aspires to; Its colors (orange and white with blue accents) are bright and noticeable, both all the way around the huge race course and also on the road while the racing team travels from site to site.
Featuring hydroplane racing’s most distinguished driver, Dr. Ken Muscatel, one of the top owners in the sport’s history, Jim Harvey, and a “cool” race boat, companies that are interested in sports marketing opportunities will find the right fit in Superior Racing Team. There’s plenty of room for you as a part of our team on the American Boat Racing Association circuit. We’d love to have you!
With Superior Racing Team, here’s just a glimpse of the exposure your company will receive:
- An eye-catching boat that will be a 30-foot billboard for your company, both at 200 miles per hour and at 55 miles per hour.
- Exposure to huge crowds, sometimes in excess of a quarter-million people, at seven major annual festivals in North America, including major media markets like Evansville, Ind. (Cincinnati, Ohio market), Detroit, Seattle, and San Diego (includes Southern California media market).
- National television coverage on Outdoor Life Network (OLN) – which also broadcasts the National Hockey League and the Tour de France – which reaches more than 72 million households. In Seattle, more people watch the seven-hour live KIRO broadcast of the hydroplane races than watch the Super Bowl in Seattle (A.C. Nielsen media research).
- Nearly 200 million impressions per racing season are generated nationwide by the appearance of the hydroplane, transporter rig, and by collateral material offered by the racing team. The value of those impressions is more than $3 million.
- Consumers nationwide are not only watching the racing on television, but also visiting the vendors during these events, which are all connected to local festivals. A boat sponsorship will afford you the opportunity to build traffic and brand identification and loyalty.
- Hydroplanes are exposed to local, regional and national media – including television, radio, newspaper, magazine and Internet.
- Hydroplane racing has a fanatical following that uses various different e-mail discussion groups, weblogs and driven websites developed and driven by fans.
- An in-cockpit camera opportunity presents sponsors with unique publicity opportunities on OLN and local television, as well as providing viewers with a driver’s-eye view of the action.
- Different sponsor packages afford for premium positioning and recognition on the Superior Racing Team website.
Demographics of the Hydroplane Racing Audience
It is said that motorsports fans are the most brand loyal in the world, and research proves the theory. Fans of motorsports, hydroplanes included, are acutely aware of who the sponsors of the sport, the series, and each of the teams are – whether those sponsors are presenting or associate sponsors. It is not uncommon for companies that sponsor hydroplane teams to receive “thank you” notes from fans throughout the year. Because of the sponsor awareness racing fans have, they are also very likely to support the companies with which they have built brand loyalty. Your sponsorship of our boat will create a bond between your company and our sport’s “captive audience”.

Race Attendance in 2005
In-person attendance at race sites in 2005 was up from the previous two seasons, totaling more than 1.1 million people at seven locations. These races are a big deal in the cities that host them. For example, the town of Madison, Ind. (population approximately 13,000), more than tripled in size during the race weekend.
- Seattle, Wash. – 375,000
- San Diego, Calif. – 300,000
- Valleyfield, Quebec – 150,000
- Detroit, Mich. – 100,000
- Evansville, Ind. – 85,000
- Tri-Cities, Wash. (Kennewick, Richland, Pasco) – 55,000
- Madison, Ind. – 45,000
- TOTAL – 1,110,000

Customize Your Package
We are so happy that you’re considering being a part of our team that we don’t have any strict “take-em or leave-em” rules to sponsorship. We’ll work with you to customize a sponsorship package that works for both sides.
Barter Deals
So now you have an understanding of how valuable sponsoring a hydroplane is, and you REALLY want to do it; but your budget doesn’t have the flexibility to make it happen. Well, we’re so flexible that we’re even willing to work with you to the extent that we trade our sponsor space for your goods and or services. In the past, we’ve traded sponsor space for free hotel rooms, catering in the pits to keep our crew fed and hydrated, and more. We continue to offer these types of deals because they are valuable to us. Trades help us reduce the expenses of racing each season, and you can deduct the costs from your advertising budgets, without actually spending cash. If you’re interested in providing a service like this on a barter basis, we would love to talk with you.
